German Shepherd Rescue South

48 Edward Grove, Portchester, Fareham PO16 8JA

With a tagline of ‘why buy love when you can rescue it’, this specialised German Shepherd rehoming centre is an independent facility, which only houses this intelligent breed.

In order to adopt from here, you must meet a tight criteria and go through a rigorous application process.

The adoption costs £175 to £300 which goes towards caring for the dogs at the service and your first four weeks’ pet insurance for your new canine companion.

The rescue centre is not currently offering viewings without appointment due to lockdown restrictions.

RSPCA Solent Branch, The Stubbington Ark Animal Centre

Ranvilles Farm Animal Shelter, Ranvilles Ln, Fareham PO14 3EZ

The Solent branch has a number of animals ready for rehoming, following behaviour and health checks at the centre.

You can review the dogs on the website, before completing an application form if you find one which you would like to be considered for.

The adoption process, once selected as a potential new owner, includes visiting the dog at the kennel and then receiving a home visit.

Dogs over 10 years old cost £90, other dogs cost £150 and puppies cost £170. Fees include neutering, microchipping and some vaccinations.

St Francis Animal Welfare

Sunnyside Cottage, Mortimers Ln, Fair Oak, Eastleigh SO50 7EA

The St Francis Welfare Centre is currently only taking pre-made appointments as its walk-in service has been cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.

You can view the dogs ready for rehoming on its site. The dogs have been received into the centre for various reasons including abandonment and so their backgrounds are not always known.

Hairy Hounz

(This is not a walk in centre and rehomes dogs from foster carers)

This rehoming centre saves dogs who have strayed or been abandoned and aims to rehome them for a second chance at having a loving owner.

The dogs available are advertised on the Facebook page, but you can enquire on its website.

The facebook page gives a background into the animals in the charity’s care.

Itcharges £200 for adoption, covering the cost of chipping, vaccinations, health checks, neutering, flea and worm treatment and any other items the vet deems necessary.

Dogs who are fostered also spend time with a dog behaviourist before being given to their new owners.
