Times like these call for a magnum of Provence rosé | Alistair Gibson

It seems we are living in fairly unsettling times right now, so maybe we all need a little escapism.Wouldn’t it be nice if summer was here, the sun was shining down and we had a glass of Provence rosé in our hand?

I am sure the summer will arrive but in the meantime here are some particularly delicious Provence rosés that, with a bit of imagination, may bring a little sunshine.

Studio by Miraval 2018, IGP de Méditerranée (Co-op £12, Tesco £12), okay so strictly this is not a Provence rosé but it is made by the same team as Chateau Miraval, that now famous Provence producer jointly owned by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt with input from the Perrin family.

This is in essence a second wine of the estate and its bottle is reminiscent of something out of the perfume industry.

It takes its name from the recording studio at Miraval that, over the years, many famous artists have recorded at, including Pink Floyd and AC/DC.

It’s fashionably very pink in colour with some floral notes, red fruits and a little spice on the nose followed a light, fresh mouth feel with a crisp, dry finish.

Ticks all the the boxes.

MiP Classic Rosé 2018, Côtes de Provence leaandsandeman.co.uk £14.95 or £13.95 per case of 12, also available in magnums) is produced by one of the best producers in the region, Domaine des Diables and the MiP stands for Made in Provence.

This wine certainly seems to have attracted a lot of coverage in the press and at wine competitions over the years and it’s not hard to see why.

It is very pale in colour, the nose is quite subtle with some red fruits and herbaceous notes but the palate opens out with wild strawberry and redcurrant fruit, some soft acidity and a nicely textured finish.

It you happen to light the barbecue over Easter this would work really well.

AIX Rose 2018 Coteaux d’Aix en Provence (Hermitage Cellars £14.30, also available in magnums £28, Majestic £28.99 magnums only) is made from a blend of grenache, syrah and cinsault with just a touch of carignan.

It is now perhaps one of the most recognisable of all Provence rosés and it delivers.

Very pale with raspberries, some peach blossom, white stone fruit and a twist of spice, the palate has a touch of minerality, more red fruits and a lovely silky texture and some complexity on the finish.

Pull out a magnum of this to make the sun shine.
