THIS WEEK IN 1974: Farmers protest to public about food

Hampshire farmers visited supermarkets and flocked to high streets to explain to shoppers why they could not continue producing food without losing money.

This was their contribution to a European campaign calling for a better deal for farmers and protection of food supplies.

Fifty-thousand ‘your food is at risk’ leaflets were distributed in shops and streets telling people of the rocketing costs of feed and falling prices of animals.

A number of leaflets were signed and sent to parliament.
