Tall Ships is now offering a limited number of family and friends day sails on board its iconic 72ft Challenger yachts. Proceeds from these voyages will help raise vital funds for the charity to give life-changing experiences to vulnerable young people once the government allows residential voyages to start again.

Begin the day at Gunwharf Quays, where you will be greeted by the Tall Ships professional crew and board the yacht before heading into one of the most famous sailing waters in the world, the Solent.

With the wind in your hair, everyone will have the chance to get hands-on and learn how to handle these iconic yachts. Of course, if you would prefer to sit back and let the crew take care of the sailing whilst you enjoy the salty sea air, that’s okay too!

Having hoisted the sails, the morning will be spent covering the basics of sailing before breaking for a light lunch at sea. You will continue sailing throughout the afternoon and head back to Gunwharf Quays where you will end the day.

Over the course of the day you will discover the history of the world-famous Challenger yachts – which have all raced around the world twice – and have the chance to set the sails, tack, gybe and even steer the boat!

Tall Ships wants you and your family to enjoy an unforgettable day of sailing so your safety whilst onboard is, and always has been, our top priority. Sailing has never been risk-free, so it is used to assessing and managing risk and, for Tall Ships, Covid-19 is no different.

Tall Ships is following – and in some cases exceeding – the Royal Yachting Association and government guidelines to reduce the risks of infection to the lowest possible level.

It takes all practical measures to ensure that those who are sailing arrive in good health, join a boat which has been sanitised and, to the extent possible, adhere to the contemporary hygiene and social distancing guidelines on board.
