All hands on deck to help Fareham centre

ROYAL Navy officers went all green-fingered to brighten the garden of a Fareham-based centre for disabled children which had been ravaged by bad weather.

The team of five sailors, who are all on courses at Fareham’s HMS Collingwood, came together to revive the garden at the Rainbow Centre, in Palmerston Drive.

Children weren’t safe to use the garden because of damage caused by poor winter weather in recent weeks.

So to help, the officers spent the afternoon gardening, scrubbing and jet washing the rubberised play area in the centre’s outdoor space.

The navy manpower was all part of HMS Collingwood’s continued drive to support the Rainbow Centre.

The charity provides education for children with cerebral palsy and offers a number of services for adults with disabilities.

The officers involved in the clear-up are now looking to encourage more people to volunteer and help at the site in the future.
