Bouquets to brighten days during campaign

FLOWER clubs are hoping to spread a little joy into people's lives through the return of a national campaign.

The Lonely Bouquet campaign, which sees flowers left in random places, is due to take place on May 5.

Joan Gittens, 64, vice chairwoman of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (Nafas), said: ‘The idea is to share our love for flowers and spread awareness for our society. Last year the Lonely Bouquet stories reached Canada.

‘It really does help people. They tell you they’re having a bad time right now and it cheers them up.’

Nafas has 59 clubs in 21 areas which spreads from Wessex to Jersey – uniting groups from Hampshire and parts of Dorset and Surrey.

Fareham Flower Club, which meets on the second Thursday of every month at Wallington Village Hall, will be taking part this year.

Sandy Mitchell, from the club, said the group would be leaving bouquets around Fareham on the day.
