Bowlers lend a hand

A Gosport bowling club hosted a fundraising event for the Queen Alexandra Hospital's Rocky Appeal.

Forton Bowling Club members made it a day to remember when teams from clubs across the town competed in the annual Reg Jeffries all-day charity tournament.

The first wood rolled down the green after Gosport mayoress Lynn Hook greeted club officials and opened the contest, which raised £600.

Mick Lyons, QAH appeals co-ordinator, told the club it was vital to raise the next £850,000 to help secure the retention of the revolutionary Da Vinci surgical robot at the hospital.

He said: ‘We need everyone’s help to get this enormous amount of money.

‘It’s been an excellent turnout today, and the bowling club has certainly been up there ready to play their part.’
