Brownies work hard in hospice fundraiser

The group, as part of their Hampshire Scouting and Guiding, Making a Difference Together badge, raised £232.84 through a cake sale at a Guiding meeting and a Christmas raffle. The group also held a multitude of car boot sales and donated goods to the Naomi House charity shop in Fareham.

Liz Dunning, of Fareham Division Girl Guiding, said: ‘All Brownies were given a Naomi House money box to help them collect money from family and friends, lots put their Christmas money into the box too.’

Naomi House and Jacksplace hospices provide expert care for more than 340 life-limited and life-threatened children, young people and their extended families. Their work helps people from across the south including Hampshire, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight.

It costs £7m a year to run the care facilities at both hospices.

Naomi House and Jacksplace are reliant on the support of local people and their donations.

A £10 donation can buy crafts for a child to make a special gift or £20 could fund one hour of nursing care for a child and £62 could fund a multi-sensory session for a child at the centre.

Ambassadors Steve and Pauline Bailey, of Naomi House, visited the Brownies’ hut to receive a cheque for all the money raised.

As charitable volunteers, Mr and Mrs Bailey promote the work that Naomi House and Jack’s Place does throughout the community and often visit schools and clubs.

The 6th Hardway Brownies group enjoyed watching two short videos which showed a mum talking about the wonderful care her daughter had received at Naomi House.

The money raised will go towards improving care at the hospices.
