Friends set up firm that brings '˜peace of mind'

THEY have looked after celebrities, been in charge of security at major events and even carried out top secret international security work, but now two friends have decided to set up their own business.Â

Paul Eite, 41, and Tyrone Carpenter, 44, met through their various roles in the security industry decades ago.

The duo have had long and varied careers, having both started working as security guards in their teens, including looking after major department stores, bouncing at clubs, and protecting pop stars and Olympians.

But after bumping into each other decades later, and realising they were both living in Hayling Island, they decided to join forces.

They set up Gatekeepers Group earlier this year '“ and say their business is growing as people become more aware of crime, and of how easy it is to put in measures to prevent it or bring about prosecution.

Paul, a dad-of-three, said: '˜The business was borne out of our frustration. Our friends and family were saying they had paid over the odds for security systems, and saying that they should have come to us, so we thought it could actually work as a business.'

As well as putting in CCTV, the firm can also fit alarms, provide physical security staff, fit vehicle trackers and give security assessments.

Paul said: '˜CCTV makes people think twice about burgling a house. Criminals will get around alarms, or just simply ignore them. When there's a CCTV system, it's a deterrent.'

Dad-of-two Tyrone said: '˜Putting in security measures can also bring about a reduction in home insurance costs, and help with insurance claims. Plus it gives you peace of mind.

'˜It is amazing how many people want CCTV but they think that having cameras put in will be expensive but with the advances in technology, they are not. It is well worth the investment.'

Since the business launched, they have helped with several cases of anti-social behaviour, even helping to catch a graffiti artist.

The pair say they can fit a four-camera system for as little as £800 plus VAT. Their home security aspect may be taking off, but they also hope to grow their other services, including providing security to warehouses and factories.

Paul said: '˜With us it is all about the personal touch. Our strapline is 'providing reliable security solutions for an unreliable world' and that's what we are all about.'Â
