THE Homebase store in Portsmouth will close by the end of this year, the company has announced.

The Homebase at Ocean Retail Park in Burrfields Road, Portsmouth, will close its doors on December 21.

Speculation has surrounded the store’s future for a number of weeks, after the firm announced plans to close 42 stores across the UK in August.

A spokeswoman for Homebase said: ‘The Homebase store in Portsmouth will be closing in December.

‘Staff members have been informed of the decision.’

The Portsmouth store was not on the initial list of planned closures – unlike the Homebase in Hedge End.

In the past week, The News has been contacted by multiple sources who have said that they have heard the Homebase in Portsmouth would be closing down.
