EVERY so often, a local cafe can put the likes of Costa or Starbucks to shame. The Marmalade Cafe in Copnor Road, Copnor, is no exception.

Aside from their delicious cakes and jacket potatoes, Elizabeth said their best-seller is the cooked breakfast, a speciality of the cafe, which includes sausages and bacon from the local butchers, as well as eggs, hash browns, beans, black pudding and fresh tomatoes, costing £7.50.

Marmalade Cafe's location has a strong heritage in dining, being the location of various cafes for the past 70 years, before Elizabeth took on the venture.

The business came about after an initial investment of more than £5,000, which saw Elizabeth pursue her desire to open a cafe after leaving a job in finance.

A dedicated mother of seven, she found her calling for making food when preparing meals for her children, as well as after working in a cafe for a summer job.

Now she says she's pleased to be at the helm of her own business.

Elizabeth and the other employees place great emphasis on providing a friendly and accommodating service that yields many loyal patrons.

Elizabeth said: '˜The customers are really the main thing. They return to the business, which is good.'

She said that positive reviews on Facebook have also helped in spreading the word of Marmalade Cafe's exceptional food and service.
