Celebrating film at Making Waves festival in Portsmouth

Making Waves will be showcased at the Wedgewood Rooms, in Portsmouth, to highlight talented movie makers from the city and further afield.

The annual event is Portsmouth's largest celebration of short films with more than 80 from across the area shortlisted as potential winners.

It has been held for the past seven years and has grown in popularity with film makers keen to get involved.

The range of genres and techniques have made picking winners difficult for the judges.

Sam Mason Bell, Making Waves organiser, said: '˜The quality bar is so high this year that we're having a tough time defining the best in each category.

'˜There's been internal quarrelling and drama, all because the films this year are so good.

'˜But we really do have to make the toughest decisions on the smallest of details.'

Award categories include Best Local Film (including Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, and West Sussex), Best National Film, Best International Film and Youth Award (under 18).

This year sees the introduction of a new category, Best Web Series.

This category seeks to promote awareness and inclusion of the progressive trend of creators producing content for online audiences.

Making Waves Film Festival is being held on Monday, November 26 at 7pm.

Anyone who books tickets can take part in the Audience Award by casting a vote for their favourite film of the night.
