Cladding on new university tower block in city centre is safe

There are no plans to remove the cladding from Catherine House, which is currently under construction and holds 1,000 student residences.

A spokeswoman for The Student Housing Company and Catherine House, said: ‘To maintain our excellent fire safety record we launched an immediate investigation to check all of our properties in light of the tragic events at Grenfell Tower and that included Catherine House.

‘The review found the building to be fully fire compliant with higher standards and measures than is required, making it a safe place to live and work.’

The £51.5m project involves the conversion of the former Zurich House building, and the construction of an adjoining building.

It’s due for completion this summer.
