Councillor '˜sickened' as woman's bags were stolen during seizure

The woman, from Portchester, who wished to be unnamed, said that her bag, which contained her purse and disability bus pass and her shopping bags were taken from her as she was getting on the X4 bus at Fareham bus station to Portchester at 9.28am last Tuesday, June 21.

She was taking the bus to get home to Portchester and after recovering consciousness from the seizure, was then found by her mum, Jillian Price, 75, who is ‘appalled’ by what had happened.

Ms Price, 75, from West Street, Portchester said: ‘I was appalled when I found her.

‘My daughter was not coherent when it happened so unfortunately does not have much memory about what she saw or who might have taken the bag.

‘The bags were not left on the bus so someone must have taken advantage of the situation to take them.

She informed the police about the incident after finding her daughter and the police are still investigating the circumstances.

Sean Woodward, Fareham Borough Council’s executive leader said: ‘It’s quite disgusting behaviour.

‘It is sickening to think that there are people out there who would do something like this.

‘It’s not the sort of thing that you would expect to happen in Fareham, which makes it all the more surprising.’

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said that they were investigating and that CCTV from the area had not aided the investigation.

Ms Price added: ‘The bus driver apparently did not see anything, I think they were changing over shifts at the time when it happened but it absolutely baffles me that no-one has come forward to say that they saw something.

‘The bags were with her before, so someone must have taken them.’

She added that her daughter, who is 44, is feeling ‘strong’ despite the incident.

She said: ‘My daughter’s feeling fine and doesn’t let these things bother her.

‘However, I would urge that anyone who saw anything to come forward and help us out.
