10 police fail fitness test out of hundreds

Each year officers are required to take the test, which includes a run.

In Hampshire, 10 failed in 2015 but 1,660 police officers passed. The level required to pass is different depending on job roles.

A force spokeswoman said: ‘The overall number of officers who successfully complete the job-related fitness test each year in Hampshire is 99.4 per cent which is an excellent pass rate.

‘There may have been a number of reasons why 10 officers did not achieve the required level but this only represents 0.6 per cent of the total number of officers who took the mandatory test.

‘Hampshire Constabulary is committed to providing the opportunity for officers to develop their personal fitness and as such has provided fitness suites in a number of police stations.’

‘There is a gym, which is free of charge, at Training Headquarters in Netley and officers can contact our Wellbeing department, who can provide fitness programmes and information in areas such as nutrition and diet.’

Any officer who fails is sent to occupational heath and wellbeing to give them a chance to pass it next time.
