Burglary suspect from Portsmouth is remanded in custody

A MAN who was arrested on suspicion of burglary after climbing a roof of a house has appeared before magistrates.

Michael John Smith, of New Road, Buckland, appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with three of counts burglary.

The first theft is alleged to have happened in Winter Road, Southsea, between December 16 and December 19 last year.

The next incident took place in Byerley Road, Fratton, on January 15 this year, followed by a third suspected burglary in Northern Parade, Hilsea, on Tuesday.

During the brief hearing, Smith spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.

He did not enter a plea to magistrates.

He was remanded into custody.

The 30-year-old is scheduled to appear at a hearing in Portsmouth Crown Court, via video link, on Friday, March 10.
