Posting about the incident on social media, Rowans Hospice said: ‘With our retail shops forced to remain closed during the lockdown and the unprecedented losses to our income that result, we are really sad the windows of our Fratton shop have been smashed in a mindless act of vandalism.

‘These will now have to be replaced at considerable cost to us.’

Rowans Hospice, based in Purbrook, provides specialist palliative care to people with life-limiting or terminal illnesses in the southern Hampshire area.

The charity is beloved in Portsmouth and the surrounding area, having touched the lives of many people with the care it offers.

It is unknown exactly when the shop’s windows will be replaced.

The charity has also thanked people for their support during what have been difficult times for many.

‘we are at least constantly reassured and humbled by the overwhelming majority in our community who have supported us over the last two months and shown us so much love, kindness and generosity,’ the statement continued.

'Thank you to everyone who is helping to keep us going; this will not dampen our spirits.’
