England boss Hodgson sends his best wishes to Pompey fan Andrew Bache who was attacked by Russians at Euro 2016

Andrew Bache, 51, of Portsmouth, is in a Marseille hospital after the attack last Saturday. His family have reported that he has opened his eyes and his upper body has started to show movement.

He is one of three men to be hospitalised - one has not been named and the other is Stewart Gray, a Leicester City supporter from Hinckley,

They are all in the Timone Hospital in Marseille.

Hodgson said: ‘We feel bad whenever we hear about our fans getting injured in fights, especially in particular with the three still in hospital in Marseille and still critically injured.

‘We seriously hope they will recover as soon as possible and their injuries will not be long-lasting.

‘We hope incidents of that kind will not occur again and that the fans who come on Monday night will be able to enjoy it in same way as fans at England-Wales enjoyed the occasion.

‘That’s our hope, our dream. But the reality is it doesn’t always work out that way but our attitude towards it remains the same.

‘We want England fans to enjoy the football.

‘We urge them to be cautious about coming without tickets and we certainly want them to stay out of trouble because we don’t like to hear fans are in hospital after being caught up in violence.’

England play Slovakia on Monday night in their final group game of Euro 2016.
