Dominic Stanley, who committed the offences when he was 16, was convicted yesterday for the offences which took place three years ago.

Stanley met his victim online before inviting her over to his mother’s house in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire with the intention to have sexual intercourse, which was where the first rape took place.

The former engineering student then met with the girl after school a few weeks after the first incident, attempting to persuade her that she ‘loved’ him before he raped her again in nearby woods.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard that Stanley, now 19, believed his victim to have been aged 14 when he met her.

Recorder Michael Vere-Hodge QC said: ‘It is clear that this was not a case of sexual experimentation.

‘This was an abusive relationship and you were the dominant personality in it.

‘Time has passed in this case because of the effect of what you did to her.’

The court heard that the effect of the two rapes had led to the victim self-harming and that her account of events was only discovered when her handwritten letter about the abuse was found at her home.

Stanley had denied the offences but was found guilty by a jury on the two counts.

Recorder Vere-Hodge stated there was a ‘degree of arrogance’ in Stanley and that he had persisted that his victim’s account of the events were ‘fantasy.’

He added: ‘You blackmailed her to thinking that she loved you. You were playing on her immaturity and vulnerability and you know that you took advantage of her..

‘It is a great relief to the court that she had moved on and has been able to put a great deal of it behind her.

‘This trial was your gamble and it is clear that you have no remorse.’

Richard Davenport, defending Stanley, said in mitigation: ‘It is quite clear that the initial contact was voluntary as they met through a website and she agreed to come into his house and into his bedroom and she then agreed to meet him at another location.

‘It was not a violent attack but she did not consent which made it rape.

‘This is going to completely destroy his life. He has had to withdraw from university and his work prospects are now extremely limited.

Stanley, of Bromsgrove, was jailed for six years imprisonment for a total of the two offences and placed on the sex offenders’ register.

The case took place at Portsmouth due to Stanley being arrested while as a student in the city.
