Footage from a body-worn camera captured the moment police arrest Mark Oliver, 56, for repeatedly stabbing his younger brother 53-year-old Andrew at their home.

Sgt Wesley Clift’s footage was today shown to jurors at Winchester Crown Court where Oliver is accused of murdering dad-of-two Andrew in an argument over pillowcases.

Jurors have been told Andrew was stabbed five times on February 1 at the home in Harwood Road, Bridgemary, Gosport, that the brothers shared with their 86-year-old mother Jean Oliver.

Sgt Clift, with Taser drawn, is allowed in by Mrs Oliver and goes up to the semi-detached home’s upstairs landing where Andrew is on the floor struggling to breathe and bleeding.

Footage showed Sgt Clift ask ‘what’s going on?’ and the defendant, who was still on the phone having called 999, said: ‘I stabbed him.’

Oliver handed over the black-handled sheathed knife and was taken into his bedroom as PC Kevin Riches assessed Andrew, and radioed for paramedics waiting outside to come in. Sgt Clift arrested Oliver for attempted murder.

Giving evidence, PC Kevin Riches said Andrew ‘looked to be in pain’ and told jurors: ‘I asked Andy how he was feeling. He said he was struggling to breathe.’

Officers found blood on the doorframe and quilt, vomit on the pillow with an ‘oversized’ TV playing the Wales v Italy Six Nations tournament opening match.

As the air ambulance crew can be heard working on Andrew on the landing, his older sibling asks if he will be staying in custody overnight and says he is concerned about the neighbours as he is in handcuffs.

Andrew can be heard talking to medics as Oliver is taken across the landing and downstairs in handcuffs.

Another officer's body-worn video played today shows how when taken downstairs Oliver said Andrew used to be a boxer and added: 'He can lash out. I'm just thinking of the ambulance crew.'

The defendant tells Sgt Clift that Andrew strangled him until he was nearly unconscious but then added: ‘The neighbours around here put everything on Facebook so fast.’

After a few minutes a police van arrived and Oliver was put into the back, jurors saw on the video.

Earlier, PC Riches told jurors Oliver had handed over the knife to Sgt Clift and said: ‘You’re gonna need this.’

PC Riches put the sheathed blade, shown to the jury this morning, on a bookshelf in case paramedics needed to see it to assess Andrew’s injuries.

On Tuesday jurors were told the brothers’ pillowcases had been mixed up and Mrs Oliver said ‘Mark was sick and fed up of it’.

Addressing jurors in his opening speech, prosecutor Andrew Houston said: ‘We say this is a case of murder, a case where Mark Oliver, in a row over a petty trivial thing such as pillowcases and laundry, wanted to do his brother at the very least really serious harm, if not kill him.’

Oliver denies murder.
