GOSPORT STABBING: '˜He was in a bad way - he was losing a lot of blood'

Police officers were called to Mill Pond Road in Gosport at around 10pm on Sunday, after the victim was assaulted by two men.

The resident rushed to the man’s aid after he was stabbed, staying with him for 45 minutes.

The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘I heard him screaming for help, he was losing a lot of blood. After I saw him I grabbed my first aid kit and dialled 999 – I stayed with him for about 45 minutes.

‘He was in a very bad way, he went into shock and was going in and out of consciousness.’

Other residents in the area say that although the attack is a terrible event, it is neither shocking nor surprising to them – with some going as far as to say that they expect such incidents.

One 76-year-old lives in a house opposite Mill Pond Road, and is calling for police to patrol the area more often.

They said: ‘I’m not surprised or shocked this has happened.

‘Crime is common here. My car has been damaged lots of times.

‘I think the police need to be out and about in the area more. You used to be able to see PCSOs walking around, but not now.’

Another 38-year-old resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘I’m just not shocked at all.

‘There’s a home down the road that’s raided by police on a regular basis so there’s always police down here.

‘I live with my kids and luckily they were in bed, but honestly, the news of the stabbing hasn’t shocked me at all, which is sad.

‘Nothing to this extent has happened down the road that I know of, but I’m still not surprised, it’s Gosport – you expect it.

‘Usually there are drug-related problems down the road.’

But Chris Todd, 31, believes that the area is ‘generally okay’.

He added: ‘My partner was in last night, she heard someone screaming and our dog Buster kept crying, and then police officers knocked our door and took a statement from her.

‘She was quite worried because she was on her own. I came home from work and couldn’t park down the road, I had to go around the corner.

‘It’s not nice but at the same time things like this happen everywhere.

‘You could live in Alverstoke and someone could get stabbed.’

The 41-year-old victim was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment for three stab wounds to his thigh.
