Health service launches training to tackle prison suicides

WORK is being done to combat growing numbers of suicides in prison.

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, which runs healthcare in prisons, including Winchester, is running an online course.

It will help staff identify risk factors for suicide and self-harm. Last year five prisoners died at Winchester jail – the circumstances have not been confirmed.

Consultant clinical psychologist Dr Sarah Allen said: ‘We want to provide as much support and guidance as possible to our staff who work in very challenging settings.’
