Inquest opened into death of prison inmate

AN INQUEST has been opened after the death of a seventh prisoner at Winchester Prison in little over a year.

Lee Packman, 41, was found dead in his cell on July 22.

The opening of the inquest was told a post mortem had not initially determine the cause of his death.

In April this year a coroner recorded a verdict that a 54-year-old Southsea inmate who was found dead in his cell last October died of natural causes.

And a Gosport man who was accused of a stabbing attack at Agnew Family Centre in Gosport was found dead in his cell on July 13 last year.

Mr Packman’s inquest is due to be heard on February 7 next year after senior coroner Graham Short adjourned the hearing.
