Londoner jailed at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court for spitting in face of police officer

A MAN who spat in the face of a police officer just three days into lockdown has been jailed.

Abayami Ogulyemi, 27, of Clarendon Rise, Lewisham, London, admitted assaulting the police officer in Aldsworth, near Westbourne, on March 26.

He also admitted driving dangerously in Selangor Avenue and Cold Harbour Farm Road in Emsworth on August 22 last year.

District judge Gary Lucie jailed him for 10 months with a £122 victim surcharge.

He admitted driving without a licence and without insurance.

He was banned for 10 months. The case was heard in March. Court records show his name recorded as both Abayomi Ogunyemi and Abayami Ogulyemi.

The judge jailed him for a ‘prolonged incident of dangerous driving involving risk of injury to pedestrians and deliberate spitting at police officer during time of Covid-19 crisis posing a significant risk to the health of front-line worker’.

He received four months for spitting and six for the driving.
