Man taken to hospital after being assaulted repeatedly outside Spar in Southsea

A MAN has been treated for significant bruising and cuts to his face after being repeatedly assaulted in Southsea.

The 44-year-old-man was attacked outside the Spar store in St Jame’s Road at 6.20pm on Friday January 22.

He had been approached by another man who had just exited a vehicle parked outside the Premier store.

The man then assaulted the victim numerous times, leaving him with significant bruising, cuts and swelling to his face.

The victim was taken to Queen Alexandra hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are reported as non-life-threatening.

A 35-year-old man from Portsmouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to resist or prevent arrest, and he has been released on conditional police bail while enquiries continue, according to a spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary.

He added: ‘We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen or heard anything.
