More than 20 knives handed into Portsmouth police in amnesty
MORE than 20 knives were handed in during a knife amnesty.
Police appealed to the public to hand in any blades to Portsmouth Central police station.
In a week, 21 knives had been handed in to the Winston Churchill Avenue station.
The majority of the items handed in were kitchen knives, with one hooked and marked with camouflage.
Speaking in April, Supt Will Schofield said: ‘We have recently seen an increase in knife-crime in Portsmouth, which we believe to be drug related.’
He said tackling knife crime was a priority.
The amnesty was held between May 1 and 7.
