Police recovered almost £79,000 of drugs at the event while almost £55,000 were recovered from the amnesty bins used by the public outside the festival.

However, crime levels for the four-day seventh annual music festival at Matterley Bowl near Winchester dropped.

A total of 186 crimes were reported by the close of last night, compared to 337 at the same point last year.

The majority of the crimes related to drugs possession with 103 people being dealt with for this offence and 37 people dealt with possession with intent to supply drugs.

Superintendent James Fulton of Hampshire Police said: ‘The proactive and reactive drugs operation remains very effective with a good number of arrests for possession with intent to supply both Class A drugs and new psychoactive substances.

‘As has been the case over many years, there has been excellent partnership working across all agencies such as security, stewards and medical staff.’

There were also three reports of sexual assaults and a further two sexual offences reported.
