Pair are hurt by man brandishing a sword

A MAN and woman sustained cuts and bruises after being set upon by a sword-wielding attacker.

The pair were attacked in an alleyway by a man carrying a sword.

Detectives are investigating the attack, which happened in Lawrence Close, Selsey, at about 6.20pm on Wednesday

The victims sustained cuts and bruises and were taken by ambulance to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, for treatment. The woman was later allowed home but the man remains in hospital.

None of the injuries are considered life-threatening or life-changing. The people involved know each other.

Police searched the area and several hours later, following further enquiries, officers found the suspect in King’s Road, Brighton.

A 52-year-old man from Selsey has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He is currently in police custody awaiting questioning.

A weapon believed to have been used in the attack has been recovered. Call police with information on 101.
