Pair back in court over child's death in 2014

TWO people from Portsmouth appeared in court again yesterday in connection with the death of a child.

Nicola Brown and Jason Brown appeared at Winchester Crown Court following the death of the youngster in 2014.

Nicola Brown, 42, has been charged with murder and causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

Jason Brown, 43 has been charged with causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

Nicola Brown was being held in custody and was led to the dock flanked by three security guards.

Wearing a green jumper and white shirt, her eyes watered as she confirmed her name and address, remaining silent throughout the rest of the 15-minute hearing.

Jason Brown, wearing a black suit and purple tie, spoke only to confirm his personal details.

No pleas were made during the court session.

The pair were charged by police on Monday and wept as they appeared in Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

A preliminary hearing before their trial was set for September 28.

Bail conditions for the pair were not given in open court.
