Police appealing for witness in Gosport pensioner's death

69-year-old Roy Galvin tragically died after when he was involved in a dispute with another man who was believed to be cycling on the pavement on the Bury Road one-way system on Sunday 25 September.

Mr Galvin, who was with his wife who used a wheelchair, hit his head on the road leaving him with a serious head injury.

He died three days later in Queen Alexandra Hospital as a result of his injuries.

Yesterday, police were stopping motorists who may have witnesses the incident as they believe that a member of the public may crucial evidence to help their investigation.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Adam Price said: ‘Following information from other witnesses, I believe that a member of the public may have taken photos on their phone around the time of the assault.

‘We have not yet spoken to this person, who could be an important witness, so I would urge them to contact us as soon as possible by calling 101.

‘A number of motorists who may have driven past at the time have also not yet contacted us, so officers will be stopping and speaking to people on Sunday who may use that route regularly and may have some information which could assist this investigation.’

Duncan Snellgrove, of Howe Road in Rowner, has been charged with manslaughter and has appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates Court.
