Portsmouth MP '˜very upset' after Westminster terror attack

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt was caught up in the incident on Wednesday and was told to flee for her life.

In a message on her website she said: ‘I want to thank everyone who has sent messages of support and appreciation to me, my staff and colleagues, and to pay tribute to the victims of these tragic events.

‘It is of tremendous comfort to receive such notes at times like these.

‘I know many have been very upset and moved by what has happened, some constituents wanting to come to London to pay their respects to PC Keith Palmer and the other victims.

‘What I will remember of the last week is the courage, fortitude and kindness of so many people during the event and afterwards: the Canadian tourist medic, who had planned to visit Parliament with his children, helping tend the victims on the bridge, the response of medical staff and the emergency services, Keith Palmer’s colleagues, alongside Tobias, trying to save him, the security teams at the Palace and the Doorkeepers carrying on in their care of us and this place, those who have laid flowers and tea lights on Westminster Bridge marking the spots where innocent men women and children where mown down, how the public and those inside the palace looked out for each other, and peoples generosity in responding to the financial appeal for Keith’s family.

‘Yesterday tube stations displayed quotes and messages on their service information boards. One read: “When things like this happen, we drink tea and carry on”, and I understand that during the incident itself the catering staff at the palace made a brew and brought a tea trolley into the locked-down Chamber.

‘I hope you all find these examples of our shared humanity and strong values and resolve as comforting as I do.

‘The kind messages you have sent have added to that. They are much appreciated.’
