Shocked residents today told of their horror after a man was shot in the head in Crookhorn.

Two people were arrested after the incident in Athena Avenue early today.

Police say the man is in hospital with a serious head wound.

Today, people in the area told of their shock at what had happened.

Carer Amanda Jeffery, who was arriving at the road on a home visit, said: ‘It’s absolutely horrific. You don’t feel safe any more, so you?

‘You just don’t expect this to happen on your doorstep.

‘I got here to find it all cordoned off. It’s a bit of a shock.’

Penny Colenutt, 68, who lives in nearby Apollo Drive, said: ‘I am shocked - this is a very quiet estate. I couldn’t believe it.

‘My sister opened the blinds and saw the area was all taped off. It concerns me, especially living on my own. It’s alway been so quiet here.’
