Residents tell of shock as woman dies after falling from window in Southsea

PEOPLE have today spoken of their shock as a woman died after falling from a window.

Police said late last night that the 40-year-old fell from a third-floor window of a flat in Clarendon Court, Clarendon Road, Southsea.

She was taken to Southampton General Hospital but later died from her injuries.

People living nearby said they were saddened by the incident.

Jon Black, from Southsea, said: ‘I was shocked when I walked by yesterday and saw all the police but I didn’t know why they were there.

‘It is horrible though when things like this happen.

‘It is sad knowing someone’s died.’

Fellow Southsea resident Mary James added: ‘I got told by my neighbour that a lady fell from the flats and I was really shocked.

‘Things like that never happen around here so seeing all the police activity was scary.

‘My thoughts are with her family.’

St Catherine Street, between Florence Road and Clarendon Road, was taped off from 9.45am yesterday while officers investigated.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about what happened to contact them on 101 quoting Operation Tone.

They say they are not at this stage linking this with a similar incident in Salisbury Street, Southampton on Saturday.
