POLICE have urged residents to be vigilant as a cold-calling scam gains traction.Â

Allegedly, the scammers are knocking on doors offering gardening and DIY work '“ but are actually bogus and attempting to carry out organised crime at properties they attend. 

In a list of advice published by Hampshire Constabulary, residents in the region are encouraged to ask cold callers for ID, use a chain when opening the front door, lock the back door before answering to avoid distraction techniques or arrange an appointment via telephone for a time when friends or family are present.
