Robber armed with machete steals cash from Co-op

A MAN stole money from a Co-op store while armed with a machete, police have said.

Officers are investigating the armed robbery at the shop in The Square, in Westborne, at about 6.25pm on Sunday (May 24) night.

Police were called after reports the man entered the shop armed with the weapon and stole cash from the tills.

The suspect is described as white, 6' tall, of slim build and possibly with a blonde moustache/beard.

He was wearing a balaclava, a khaki green Adidas cap and turquoise green medical gloves.

He was wearing a zip-up hooded jumper with drawstrings, described as beige in colour from the chest upwards and khaki green colour below, with a three inch wide beige stripe down each sleeve. He was also wearing dark grey Adidas tracksuit trousers with three black stripes down each leg.

CCTV from the shop has been shared in the hope someone might recognise the man.

Police would like to speak to anyone who knows him or spotted any suspicious behaviour in the area at the time.

They are also keen to hear from anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage from the area
