Team raises awareness of new hate crime app

NEIGHBOURHOOD policing teams spent a day at a supermarket raising awareness of a hate-crime app.

Charles Dickens Neighbourhood Policing Team was in Asda in Holbrook Road, Fratton, Portsmouth, yesterday to speak to shoppers about hate crime, as part of their engagement work around National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

PCSO Jordan Gerbino gave information and advice about standing up to hate crime and encouraged members of the public to download the free Helping Victims of Hate Crime app.

The event was organised by Sparks, led by Victory Hampshire, and was supported by the Hampshire police and crime commissioner, as well as other partners.

Chief Inspector Jim Pegler, district commander for Portsmouth, said: ‘We take hate crime extremely seriously in Portsmouth. I would encourage our local community to download our free app for information about hate crime incidents and encourage communities to come forward and report them.’
