BURGLARS are pretending to be tree surgeons in order to gain access to people’s homes, police have warned.
Thieves have targeted a home in Havant using the ploy – one police fear could be used elsewhere in the county.
Havant-based PCSO Ben Howard said crooks had been operating in the Eastern Road and New Lane areas, with one person so far falling victim to the gang,
PCSO Howard said: ‘They had made their way into the victims back garden after saying they needed to look at branches that had fallen.
‘Please may I remind you to check the identity of any tradesmen that you may be speaking with and also ensuring you lock your back door and secure your property before letting anyone into your garden.’
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the inside.
Those with any information are being urged to call police on 101, quoting reference number 44180339100 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
