UPDATED: Police seal off Southsea street after sexual assault

Officers have closed off a part of a road in Portsmouth after a sexual assault was reported this morning.

Officers have shut two sections at Talbot Road, Southsea and are continuing to investigate.

A 48-year-old woman was out walking two dogs when she was approached from behind by a man in the Manners Lane area of Southsea at around 5.45am.

The man was disturbed when two male cyclists road past and he fled.

Police say the victim suffered a minor injury to her face and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital as a precaution.

Officers are appealing for the two cyclists to come forward as they may have information which could help the investigation.

They would also like to speak to a woman who was in the area and was approached by the victim a short time after the assault.

A 29-year-old woman, of Cosham, was driving past when she saw the police at 8.25am.

She said: ‘The police had sealed off part of a section of Talbot Road.

‘I was going through Talbot Road.

‘Two police officers sealed off the alleyway.

‘They also sealed off another part in there, which I believe was connected to back gardens or a couple of garages.’
