In a Facebook post Mr Ford said: ‘Mikey still isn’t responding too well, he has squeezed our hands a few times today, and did quietly try to talk a couple of times this morning. But is mostly sleeping.

‘It’s going to be a slow recovery from these horrific injuries. But he’s strong, and he’s a fighter.

‘Thank you all so much for your messages and prayers.’

Dozens of friends and well-wishers have posted on the Get Well Soon Mikey page.

Connor Payne said: ‘Come on Mikey Ford you need to get better so you can go to the skatepark and show everyone what you got.’
