Warning as key safes are targeted by thieves

BURGLARS have been breaking into key safes in an attempt to ransack properties, police have warned.

The safes, normally attached to the outside of homes near the front doors, have been targeted by thieves.

A number of homes with the devices have since been broken into across Gosport over the weekend.

PCSO Lara Durham-Dent said: ‘If you do have a key safe please check it and ensure that it is secure and un-tampered with.

‘If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbours please assist them with theirs to ensure security.

‘Be vigilant and make sure all windows and doors are secure and if you have any concerns over suspicious activity in your area please call the police on 101 or 999 should there be a crime in progress.’

Officers are urging people to fit security lighting and alarms, as well as removing valuables from the ground floor of their homes and storing high-value items in safes.
