THIS WEEK IN 1976: '˜A pint and a pill' is the latest trend

Youngsters were getting their kicks from taking a pill with a pint according to Portsmouth's addiction officer John East.

‘Kids today use drugs and alcohol together because it gives them a buzz for the price of a pint and a pill,’ he explained.

‘The drug scene is becoming more complicated and serious,’ Mr East told youth leaders, teachers and community workers.

But the senior adviser for the rehabilitation centre for addicts at St James Hospital, Portsmouth, said it was society’s own fault.
