Leigh Park woman must pay £4,235 after toys, carpet and plastic found dumped after house move

Chantelle Watts moved to her home in Beaulieu Avenue, Leigh Park, and got rid of toys, plastic, and carpeting among other items.
But all of these were found dumped. Winchester City Council officers found an election polling card, and letters from Guinness Partnership, Southampton magistrates and TV Licensing.

Hide AdThis led officers to Watts, who was written to asking who had dumped the waste.
No response was given – and she failed to turn up to her trial at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Magistrates found her guilty in her absence of failing to take all reasonable measures to prevent fly-tipping. The waste was found on February 11 last year.
Sentencing, magistrates said her actions were reckless not deliberate.

Hide AdWatts must pay a £1,760 fine, £385 compensation, and £2,090.52 prosecution costs - totalling £4,235.52.
Watts must pay the full amount by August 3.
