Critically-ill Emsworth mum flies home after being stranded in Florida

Lindsey Gates, 40, flew home from Florida into London Gatwick on Saturday, nearly three weeks after she was told that her brain cancer had spread to her bones and lungs while on holiday.

The mum-of-two was left stranded in the United States following the news, facing a medical bill of £87,000 and was told she had three months to live by doctors.

Friends of the family confirmed on Facebook on Saturday that the family, which includes Lindsey’s husband, Jason and children Charley, 14, and Brooke, six, landed at the London airport after being flown home by British Airways.

According to family friend Rikki Wilson, of Nutbourne, Lindsey is currently in Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

Friend Rikki Wilson, of Nutbourne posted on social media on Saturday: ‘Now that they have landed, a big shout -out to British Airways who made it possible for Lindsey to get home and sorted patient transport to QA Hospital without letting the family put their hands in their pockets. What a wonderful company!’

It is unclear as to what condition Lindsey is in, as she was in an intensive care unit when she was in Florida following the accident.

Lindsey had flown to Disneyland in Florida after she was diagnosed with four inoperable brain tumours in April.

The Emsworth mum has faced some tough years after she battled brain cancer in 2010.

She was given a five-year all-clear before she was diagnosed with the tumours.

A fundraiser to raise funds for the family was held at The Old Dairy Farm in Emsworth, yesterday,

The event was organised by Angela Moore and Angie Warnes to raise money to help the family pay the medical bills.

The family event sold out of its 200 tickets within 72 hours ahead of the event.

Angie Warnes, from Emsworth, said: ‘We got the news about Lindsey on Saturday. It’s great to hear that she’s now home.

Proceeds from the event are expected to go the family to help pay their bills.
