Daughter hopes to track down father's war memorabilia after it is accidentally donated to a Portsmouth charity shop

Carol Young believes the plane has been sold at a charity shop after she accidentally placed it in an Age Concern donation sack.

The item is of great sentimental value to the family as it belonged to her late father, Flying Officer Donald Charles Young, who flew in the RAF during Second World War.

The model Beaufighter Bomber was a replica of the aeroplane flown by Mr Young on reconnaissance missions to scout out enemy submarine craft.

'˜I was sorting out some brass ornaments into the charity bag and I didn't realise I had mistakenly included the aeroplane until I found the stand it normally sits on,' explained Carol.

After phoning all the charity shops within a 20-mile radius she eventually believes she has tracked down the sale of the item to the Age Concern Charity shop on Albert Road in Southsea.

'˜When I spoke to the man in the shop he confirmed he remembered the brass plane but that it had already been sold.'

Mrs Young has urged anyone who bought the plane or knows of its whereabouts to call her on (023) 9241 3357.

'˜I am willing to fully reimburse whatever has been paid. The sentimental value to me is far greater than any financial outlay someone spent,' said Carol.
