The Peregrine Trophy awards recognise the skill, professionalism and dedication of the small group of specialists – who join the Navy in other trades, including Royal Marines commandos, but chose to re-train as full-time photographers/camera operators.
Over the past 12 months, Royal Navy photographers have captured the activities and actions of sailors and Royal Marines from the Arctic to both sides of the Pacific, as well as the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Black Sea and the Gulf.

18. Peregrine Trophy 2021
On 13th October 2020, after completing Exercise Joint Warrior, US and UK F-35B Lightning jets (VFMA-211 and 617 Squadron) left aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth to return to RAF Marham. These two squadrons, alongside eight Merlin helicopters of 820 and 846 Naval Air Squadrons, formed the largest air group to operate from a Royal Navy carrier in more than thirty years, and the largest air group of fifth generation fighters at sea anywhere in the world. This months Group Exercise (GROUPEX) saw HMS Queen Elizabeth joined by warships from the UK, US and the Netherlands, which will accompany the carrier on her first global deployment in 2021. However, before then, the newly-formed Carrier Strike Group was put through its paces off the north east coast of Scotland as part of Joint Warrior, NATOs largest annual exercise.
