Portsmouth frigate HMS St Albans provides protection in the Gulf
A FRIGATE from Portsmouth has just finished operations with the Royal Saudi Navy in the Gulf.
HMS St Albans spent two days with the Saudi warships as part of a maritime security force providing protection in the region.
As well as conducting exercises with the Combined Maritime Forces’ contingent, sailors in St Albans also had a chance to meet counterparts from as far afield as Kuwait and Jordan. The work conducted by the navies is vital in keeping key shipping lanes free of terrorism.
Lieutenant Jon Maumy, lead planner for the task force, who also used to be one of St Albans’ helicopter pilots, said it was a ‘fantastic experience’.
