Delighted youngsters follow woodland Easter egg trail

Around 200 people, with about 100 to 150 children, were at Park Wood, in London Road, Waterlooville, yesterday.

They had gathered for the Friends of Park Wood’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Maureen Nye was delighted the crowds had turned out for the day in the eight-acre wood.

She said: ‘It was lovely with no rain, which was the most important thing.

‘Everybody seemed to have a great time.

‘We had a few eggs left over as we had 120 chocolate bunnies from Aldi.

‘We’re going to take them over to the food bank and some have gone into the local old people’s home.’

The day was organised by Friends of Park Wood, which has looked after the wood for more than 20 years.

It organises litter-picks and keeps the wood in order.

Maureen, from the group, added: ‘We’ve done it for several years now.

‘They all go round all following a trail, picking up clues to fill in a question paper and at the end of it they hand that in with their ticket and they get their egg or bunny.’

The group is planning a teddy bears’ picnic on July 23 between midday and 2pm, with people encouraged to bring their own picnic.

Games and a competition will be held on the day.
