A total of 27 of the huts were displaced along Hayling Island’s coastal stretch yesterday, as large swells swamped the brightly-coloured buildings.

Inclement weather, which struck early yesterday morning, also led to minor flooding along the Promenade.

The incident prompted a warning from Havant Borough Council to the island’s residents.

Taking to Twitter, the authority urged people to take care along the Promenade, as well as on the island’s beaches.

In 2014 flooding wreaked havoc on the island.

Strong gusts, heavy rain and powerful waves all combined to leave a trail of destruction, damaging beach huts, properties and the shingle flood defences.
