Farrow’s strike helped Bristol City to a 3-2 win against Yeovil, despite a goal from Primus on her league debut for the Lady Glovers.

Centre-forward Farrow and midfielder Brett, both from Fareham, played the full game as Bristol started their bid to win promotion back to WSL 1 in style.

In an even first-half, Bristol City took the lead just after the 30-minute mark when Rosella Ayane sprang the offside trap and coolly slotted passed Charlotte Haynes in the Yeovil goal.

The Vixens doubled their lead in the 38th minute with Farrow finishing confidently.

And Ayane got her second soon after the half-time break.

But Yeovil deservedly pulled a goal back in the 54th minute after being awarded a penalty.

England under-19 international Primus, who is a former Meoncross School pupil and the daughter of Pompey hero Linvoy, stepped up to score from the spot.

Nicola Cousins netted Yeovil’s second but they could not find an equaliser despite pushing forward in the final 10 minutes of the match.

Two-goal Ayane praised the team display for Bristol City as they took the bragging rights in the west country.

She said: ‘It’s really good to get three points on the board and start the season strong.

‘It’s nice to get on the scoresheet, but obviously the team performance is the main thing.

‘There are things to work on, but we got the three points.

‘When we saw Yeovil was going to be our first game we all thought it would be a big game as it’s a derby.

‘It was a good game, and a big crowd and obviously derbies are always nice to win.

‘We showed strong character as well to see it out when it was 3-2 with five minutes left.’

Meanwhile Kirsty McGee played for newly-promoted Reading but they were beaten 3-1 at Arsenal in WSL 1.

It was a tough start for the former Pompey Ladies player against top-class opposition.

Asisat Oshoala, Danielle Carter and Dominique Janssen netted for Arsenal.

Debutant Jade Boho-Sayo replied for Reading.
