Firefighters tackle bin shed fire near block of flats in Portsmouth

FIREFIGHTERS were called after a bin shed attached to a block of flats in Portsmouth caught fire.

The incident in Hayling Avenue, Copnor, happened at 7.10pm yesterday.

Three fire engines from Southsea were sent to tackle the blaze. Crews used two breathing apparatus, and a hose reel to bring the fire under control.

They managed to stop it spreading to the block of flats, but firefighters say at least half of the bin shed has been destroyed.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
